Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, president, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State talks about Peter Obi’s ambition, achievements of Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu and other issues in this interview with ISAAC NGUMAH. Excerpts:

What can you say on the forthcoming general elections in the country?

We are trying to arrange to ensure that the elections are free and fair

What are your arrangements so far?

We the leaders of Ndigbo in Lagos State and as a state with the most populations of Ndigbo anywhere in the world, are having meetings every two weeks to make sure we address our people not to cause any violence during the elections; and that we must vote with our conscience and for the interest of Ndigbo.  My people are working so hard to make sure that in all the various local governments, we have representative of chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and leaders are working day and night to make sure that there will be peace at the end of the elections.

Many people are seeing Peter Obi as a new project in Nigeria. How do you see him?

It is not wrong for anyone to give or direct his opinion; we can’t put our eggs in one basket

What can you say on the newly-signed Electoral Law?

Well, it is for you and the interest of Nigeria.

There is a report that you purported that the apex body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has dumped Labour Party for APC presidential flag bearer. Why is this?

That’s not true.

What is your take on the terror groups that strike recently?

It is the responsibilities of the people in charge of security or some foreign mercenaries to secure Nigerians.

What can you say about the achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State?

He has done excellently well in Lagos State. There is no doubt about his achievements so far; he deserves a second term in office for continuity of his works. He has done tremendously well; I give kudos to him.

What can you say on the Ndigbo agenda to support Governor Sanwo-Olu for a second term tenure?

I am the leader of Ndigbo to support Babajide Sanwolu of Lagos State for his kind gesture he has been giving to Ndigbo since the first day he assumed office as the executive governor of the state. I have no option than to follow him.

What benefits do you think Ndigbo will derive from Sanwo-Olu’s second term?

They are going to benefit so much. If he can do what he has done for us for the first tenure, then in  the second term, we will definitely get to the Promised Land and the sky will be our limits in the way he protects the interests of Ndigbo in Lagos State.

How do you see the trials of Nnamdi Kanu?

The Federal Government should obey the Court order in accordance with the Constitution and the Rule of Law.

What can say about the floods that wreak havocs in some states in Nigeria?

Government needs to do the needful and support the victims and also build the dams in the affected states..

Are you in support of Peter Obi of Labour Party?

As a social cultural organization, I am in support of any one that is in support of the interest of Ndigbo.

There is a report that there is a change of guard of leadership in Ohanaeze Ndigbo of Lagos State in the election of the executives headed by Chief Sunday Ossai. What is responsible for this?

Sunday OSSAI is going against the Court judgment; he is not the president, the is the executive’s under him are qualified to work with me that is the consent of the judgment says.

There is also a report that you worked against the constitution of the organization by elongating your four-year tenure. What is your reaction?

When I won the election, the same people in the organization took me to Court that my state is not yet to be there, I am from Ebonyi State, a minority state. I don’t have many people in Ohanaeze. They took me to Court and I was in the Court for three years and seven months and I won the case and they come to me and approach me and we had consent judgment. So, Sunday OSSAI is a fake person to say he is the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Sunday Ossai has been using cabals to extort money from people during this time of politics. Ossai knows he is not a president.
