South Africa defeat Super Falcons in 2022 WAFCON opener

Banyana Banyana repeated their 2018 defeat of the Super Falcons at the Mouloudia Hassan FUS

South Africa started the game the much brighter team as they asked early questions from the captain Onome Ebi-led Super Falcons defense.

The game however failed to produce any goal in the first half despite the Nigerians working out some half chances of their own.

Asisat Oshoala was tried stopped by Dlamini as she reacted slowly to Ify Onumonu’s flick.

The Nigerians played route one football for large spells in the game as they attempted to use Onumonu’s height but the South Africans stood resolute.

Dlamini was also a behemoth in goal and kept the Falcons out.

Michelle Alozie started the game with some struggles but soon settled and looked bright on the right side. Ashleigh Plumptre on the other side of the Nigerian defense also showed flashes of brilliance.

The South Africans worked through the Nigerian midfield for large spells as their spacious passing and vision helped them play better through the Nigerians.

The second half started with Nigeria piling pressure early on with Oshoala coming close with a left-footed effort which Dlamini saved beautifully.

South Africa scored two quick-fire goals to shock the Nigerians in the second half as Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hildah Magaia scored in a space of three minutes.

Rasheedat Ajibade pulled one back for the Super Falcons in the 92nd minute but it proved too late for any respite.
