Resist temptation from drug cartels, Marwa tasks NDLEA officers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has charged 2,500 newly-trained personnel of the agency to resist corrupt influences from drug barons and cartels.
He gave the advice at the passing out parade of
the officers in Katsina on Thursday.
Marwa, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Col. Yakubu Bako (Rtd), urged the new Narcotic Agents and Narcotic Assistants to uphold the integrity of the NDLEA’s noble mission.
He stressed that their actions directly impact the safety and well-being of their families, communities, and the entire nation.
He said:“In the renewed war on illicit drugs, NDLEA is employing the latest techniques, technologies, and intelligence to curb the menace. Hence, I can assure you that you are coming into the Agency at a time when the job has become challenging but exciting and gratifying as well”.
Highlighting the agency’s multifaceted approach, he pointed out that NDLEA had launched an Offensive Action against traffickers and drug barons while simultaneously promoting the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy campaign with the long-term objective of preventing drug abuse in society.
Marwa urged the new personnel to reject the temptations of bribery and corruption that often accompany the drug trade.
He emphasized that these corrupt practices can compromise the integrity of anti-narcotic law enforcement officers and have far-reaching implications for society.
He added, “Corruption and bribery have no place in this mission, and you must not only resist these temptations but actively expose and report any attempts of compromise.”
He further stressed that their commitment should be absolute and unalloyed, as the NDLEA’s duty is sacred and its loyalty to the cause a beacon of hope for victims of the drug scourge.
Marwa also called on the larger society to support the NDLEA in its mission to eradicate the drug menace and safeguard the nation’s corporate existence.
He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in stemming the tide of drug abuse and trafficking, stating that it is society’s children, youths, culture, and future that are under attack and in danger of being corrupted by the illicit drug culture.
The NDLEA boss expressed his appreciation to the government and people of Katsina, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina, and the Commandant and instructors of NDLEA Academy for their unwavering support and assistance throughout the training.
The passing out parade was well attended by high-ranking officers from various security agencies, featuring a march past, a demonstration of basic anti-narcotic operations skills, and the presentation of awards to outstanding cadets.
Dignitaries in attendance included Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Secretary to the Katsina State Government, who represented Governor Dikko Umar Radda, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Daura, and representatives of the Emir of Katsina.
