Kidnapping in S/East: Reps urges security agencies to unravel high cases

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security DSS and other security agencies to unravel and address the rise in the number of kidnapping cases of innocent people in Anambra State and other parts of the South Eastern part of the country

 

The House also mandated the security agencies to get to the root of these unresolved cases of kidnapping and report back to it within few weeks and asked the relevant House Committees on security to ensure compliance to it.

 

This followed the adoption of a motion by Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu representing Nnewi North/South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State on the matter on the floor of the House at plenary.

 

 

Azubogu while debating the motion noted that there have been a lot of cases of missing persons in the South East

and in Anambra State in particular.

 

Ge further noted that amongst other crimes recorded during the said period was the kidnap of one Mr. Obiora Agbasimalo the candidate of Labour Party for the Anambra governorship election.

 

The politician he to the green chamber of the apex legislative institution was kidnapped on the 18th of September, 2021 in Anambra State.

 

He said:”Observes also that about 5 Engineers working with Melan Consultants in Effium Ebonyi state was also kidnapped since 3rd November, 2021 and nothing has ‘also been heard till date.

 

“These with numerous other unresolved cases creates a high level of sense of insecurity in the South East. Concerned that till today, many weeks after and still counting, nothing has been heard about most of these cases.

 

Cognisant that these persons has families and loved ones who are already broken and left in perpertual agony.

 

“Worried that if nothing tangible is done to atleast provide hope for these families, we might end up loosing them too.”

 

He urged the House resolves to urge the  security agencies.as Police, Department of State Services DSS and Civil Defence Corps to intervene with a view to resolve the rampant cases.

 

Speaking in support, Hon.Dachung Bagos (Plateau,PDP) said that the rising cases of kidnapping in the country is worrisome and the security agencies should resolve the matter throughout the country.

 

The House presided by the Deputy Speaker Hon Idris Wase unanimously adopted the motion.

 

 

Wase said that the Police and other security agencies should quickly get to the root of these unresolved kidnapping cases.

 

He also mandated the relevant Committees of the House to work with the security agencies and report back to the House in six weeks
