Imo, Enugu residents observe sit –at–home order

.As roads are deserted, shops, markets, banks, schools closed

Both private and public business activities once again got stalled in Imo State following the observance of the earlier  IPOB “Sit at home Order” in the Southeast  Again on Monday, August 31, 2021, business activities got   paralyzed  and movement of vehicles restricted while banks, petrol stations  and other  commercial ventures in  the state closed shop for fear of being attacked by Unknown gunmen

Our Correspondent who monitored the situation in the state capital Owerri, reports that  markets, artisans, relaxation centers, banks, schools all packed up for business as tension mounted so much following the rumour making the round that unknown gunmen  were coming to attack in the state

The usually ever busy roads like  Douglas, Wetheral, Port-Harcourt, Aba, Umuahia and Onitsha roads  were deserted

The same situation was recorded  in Orlu, Okigwe, Oguta, Obowo, Ohaji/Egbema and the Mbano council areas where local markets, motor parks and eatery centres which all became dissolute with utmost serenity.

However drivers of the few commercial vehicles who plied some  of the roads within the Owerri metropolis hiked their fares just as Okada riders desperate to eke out a living ferried frustrated commuters to their destinations at exorbitant prices.

As the situation subsists,  security personnel were not seen  any where patrolling the roads  as  commuters trekked to get to their to get to their various destinations

Ghost Monday: Enugu Is Grounded

Also, the  Enugu state capital is shut down in terms of the regular activities.
The roads are bereft of the usual vehicular traffic except for some clandestine bus and tricycle operators making swift runs charging exorbitant fares to stranded commuters.
The motor parks as well as loading bays of mass transit operators engaged in intra and interstate shuttles are also not operational.
Schools had closed last weekend except for the Federal Government college whose offcampus students can illafford to go to school owing to the dearth of available transport.
Offices,shops ,markets and most public places including banks have also closed their doors to the public.
However,there has been no unsual security beef-up or patrols or encounter with suspected IPOB members.
The roads and streets are bare and free with young people engaging in street football.
There has been no word or threat from the government though.
Pedestrians can be seen onstreets mostly looking for inner city outlets to buy food and quaff drinks while discussing the trend that appears to have become the new normal here.
Nobody has been observed on the streets trying to observe and or enforce the sit-at-home order better known as the Ghost Monday here.
