Civil Society Forum applauds FG for  recognizing  CSOs as critical partners in the migration governance

… fine-tune ways to strengthen migration governance in Nigeria.

The Civil Society Forum on Migration and Development Wednesday has appreciated the federal government for recognizing  CSOs as critical partners in migration governance, even as it fine-tune ways to strengthen migration governance in Nigeria.

Addressing the participants, the National Coordinator of the CSOnetMADE,  Dr. Emeka Obiezu, in a migration discourse said it would allow the participants to evaluate and criticize their roles in the migration governance, free of external influence.

The event, which has in attendance of relevant stakeholders in the migration governance architecture, was the second edition, with the maiden edition held in 2021.

With  theme, ‘CSOs’ role and contributions in achieving sustainable migration governance through the Technical Working Group on Migration and Development, the national coordinator,  said the Forum’s 10 points communique issued during 2021 event, is being Incorporated in the national policy on migration governance, and expressed optimism that the outcome of this year’s event would be adopted not only by the federal government but also, by  other critical stakeholders championing migrants’rights.

In her remark, the Minister of Humanitarian, National Disatarter,  and Social Welfare, Hajia Sadiya Umar Faruq, said the federal government was taking the issue of migration serious because of the continued increase in the world population and the crisis in some parts of the world.

Represented by a deputy director in the ministry, Charles Enello, the Minister also commended the contributions of the CSOs to the migration governance and assured of their inputs, as it will be contained in the communique to be issued at the end of the delibrations,  would be part of the national policy on migration.

Speakers at the event include: the representatives of the Swiss Embassy in Nigeria, International Organisation on Migration, the European Union, and the NACTAL, believe that the deliberation would promote an effective and sustainable migration governance in Nigeria through the Technical Working Group.
