The Union of Anambra Traditional Rulers and Anambra Association of Town Unions (ASATU) of Anambra South Senatorial District have charged politicians vying for different political seats in the 2019 elections to be true representatives of the Nigerian people saying the collective will of the people were no longer being respected by the political leaders.
Lamenting the situation of things in the country the traditional rulers and ASATU charged politicians vying for positions in the 2019 election to take leadership seriously to avoid plunging the country into anarchy and chaos.
“We are not satisfied with our politicians who do not take the needs and welfare of Nigerians seriously as a matter of utmost priority. The collective will of our people are no longer being respected”, they said.
The monarchs and ASATU stated this during a one day Town Hall Meeting themed ‘Accountable Representation Through Free and Fair Election’ organized by the Union of Anambra Traditional Rulers and Anambra Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Anambra South Senatorial District held at St. Cletus Church Auditorium, Otolo Nnewi, yesterday.
The moody monarchys and ASATU members charged politicians to, among other things, restructure the Nigeria to move the country forward, create job opportunities and bring an end to wanton, unnecessary killings in the country by herdsmen and Boko Haram.
The presiding monarchs on the occasion, His Royal Majesty , Emmanuel Nnabuife, the Igwe of Isseke told journalist in an interview that the monarchs and ASATU did not endorse any of the politicians for the election adding that the groups were satisfied with the huge presence of the the politician who came and showcased their agenda before the monarchs and ASATU.
“I must tell you, we did not endorse any politician. We did not endorse any of them”.
Some of the candidates present on the occasion included Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP), Barr. Love Okafoagu (AAP), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (APGA), Iju Nwabunike (APGA) ,Rt. Hon. Ben Chuks Nwosu (PDP), among others.
