Strike: FG’s stance on ASUU demands, in bad faith -Katsina varsity

The congress of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina State, has decried the stance of federal government on the issues raised by the union as inconsiderate, in bad faith and insulting to the sensibilities of the academics.

This is as various branches of ASUU have weighed the government’s position and intensified their push  for equitable solutions to their grievances.

A communiqué at the end of its congress signed by the branch chairperson and secretary respectively, Dr. Jibrin Nuhu Shagari and Dr. Mzungu Ignatius, the varsity dons maintained that failure of government to address the contentious issues in the 2009 FGN / ASUU Agreement for which the union has been on strike since 14th February, 2022, should attract a total and indefinite strike.

“On the bill to amend the NUC Act to curtail proliferation of universities without adequate funding, and the release of white paper on the visitation panels, congress urged a concrete effort to fast track the completion and passage of the bill and timely release of the white papers on the visitation panels respectively.

The branch further called on government to return to the New Draft Agreement of 2009 FGN / ASUU Renegotiation Committee Report as a demonstration of good faith.
