Sen. Abba Ali on State of the Nation :Insurgency, politically and economically motivated.

    .Says, “our country is rich but needs peace.”

The North West representative in the erstwhile Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, held sway as its chairman, Sen. Abba Ali, has made a strong case for an improved and sustained best practices that will strengthen the nation’s democratic system to prevent politically and economically motivated insurgency.

Ali, who said this in an interview with Champion Newspaper, expressed concern that if Nigerians can not get its leadership right, it may take awhile before she joins the league of developed countries.

His words: “If we need peace, we equally need people that will assist security agencies with credible information that will assist them and the government.

“This insurgency we are facing in the country is different from others’ insurgencies. It’s insurgency which, some people say, is politically and economically motivated. The politicians who are perpetuating such a nasty attitude should realize that what we need is a peaceful and developed country to enjoy the benefits we are getting.”

Further on the state of the nation, the former lawmaker said, “we are now in an election year, we hope our politicians will be matured enough to participate in this political system devoid of disturbances. We have seen a lot in the last few years, we need peace throughout our elections which will lead to a move forward.

“All of us should play politics in the right way so that at the end of the day, the ordinary persons will benefit from the exercise.”

Throwing more light on the situation in the country, Ali, who is also the chairman of the National Governing Council, African Peer Review Mechanism, reiterated that “we are rich; we are still rich but we need peace to make good use of our wealth.

“Every body wants peace, everyone wants progress, so my advice is we should practice politics without bitterness and I am sure that if we do that, there will be light at the end if the tunnel.”
