Restructuring Panacea to political Instability in Nigeria – Iwuanyanwu

An Elder statesmen, Engr, Chief Dr Emmanuel C. Iwuanyanwu, has said that restructuring Nigeria, to ensure devolution of powers to the federating Units is the only panacea to the political stability in the country.

According to him, “We need to have strong federating units and a weak centre so that everybody will leave Abuja and go back to their regions or states and develop the place.

Addressing a press conference in Owerri, the Imo state capital Thursday, as part of activities marking his 79th birthday, Chief Iwuanyanwu believed that if the restructuring is done, people will now pursue opportunities in their respective states and not in Abuja only more.

He further said that the Local Government in the country will now be made very functional to bring opportunities and development closer to the people, pointing out that the agitation against Injustice, Marginalization, Tribalism and other anti-people policy will all seize.

Chief Iwuanyanwu observe that these anti-people, will seize because every region will be developing at their pace with whatever proceeds from their soil and based on how they have been able to maximize and manage the proceeds, from their respective regions.

With this arrangement he continued, the centre now will get a portion of the proceeds from every region to manage  external affairs like immigration and foreign affairs, defense and military affairs.

According to him, “it is our view that the presidency should now be rotational and zoning of the presidency should now be enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

Also he said, “Implementation of Federal character in all other political positions at national level and in al appointments and employments would then further give every Nigerian sense of belonging in the Nigerian’s projects.

On education, in the country, the Elder statesman, Nigerians had had very quality education with very experienced teachers who were practically oriented and with very conducive learning environment.

He expressed sadness that according to him, “educational facilities in the country now are in a deplorable state” pointing out that the curriculum was designed by the colonial masters to meet the needs their time, which were needs for clerical officers, needs for
salaries, accountants etc.

Chief Iwuanyanwu noted that today, the needs in the society have changed. Also worrisome, Chief Iwuanyanwu observed, is the sorry state of the country’s health care system pointing out that, even the ruling class are not confident using the health care system in the country, rather they embark on numerous exorbitant medical tourisms at the expense of tax payers.

He insisted that Nigerians of all class deserve quality health care delivery
