Ondo PDP picks candidates for April 2024 Local Council Elections

Ahead of the February 2024 local government elections in Ondo State, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) in the state has conducted its primaries to elect candidates for the polls.

According to the opposition party, both the councillorship and chairmanship candidates emerged through transparent processes.

It would be recalled that the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had shifted the local elections from December 16 this year to February next year.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Hon Fatai Adams, told reporters in Akure, the state capital that the party followed the local electoral guidelines.

Besides, he said the party would field candidates for the proposed Local Council Development Areas if elections were to be conducted in the areas, stressing the party was not worried about the defection of some of its leaders across the state.

Adams assured that many of the defectors would soon return to the party.

Adam described the palliative measures released by the state government, as a deceit to siphon public fund.

He said: “We are following the time table religiously. We have held primary for our candidates to emerge so that we can produce our candidates.

“It is not our responsibility to reject creation of LCDA.  If the government says it wants to conduct elections into the newly created LCDAs we are ready and prepared.

On the defection of PDP chieftains, Adams said the development is not new in politics.

According to him, when a party lost a big election like the presidential election, such defections are bound to happen.
