The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, has concluded plans to induct renowned businessman and philanthropist, Engr. Arthur Eze, into its Hall of Fame, while the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, will receive the Pillar of the South-East Bridge Builder Award.
The honours will form part of activities marking the 2026 NUJ Press Week and Day Celebration scheduled for November 5 at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu.
The event is expected to attract over 500 journalists and media executives, government officials, business leaders, traditional rulers, political stakeholders and other distinguished personalities.
The council said Eze’s nomination for the Hall of Fame was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to human empowerment, philanthropy, enterprise development, mentorship, capacity building and community advancement.
It particularly recalled that Eze was the first individual to renovate the NUJ Secretariat at No. 4, Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu, providing journalists with a more conducive and secure working environment.

According to the council, “Engr. Arthur Eze’s intervention in the renovation of the NUJ Secretariat remains a remarkable contribution to the welfare and professional development of journalists in Enugu State. His gesture demonstrated a deep appreciation of the media and the important role journalists play in society.”
The union noted that his philanthropic interventions had extended beyond the media industry to individuals, institutions, churches and families across the country.
“His contributions go beyond material philanthropy. They reflect a profound philosophy of investing in humanity, empowering the less privileged, nurturing enterprise and creating opportunities for individuals and communities to prosper,” the council stated.
It added that Eze’s life and accomplishments represented a remarkable testimony to vision, resilience, enterprise and service.
“At a time when society needs individuals with the courage and capacity to transform dreams into opportunities, Engr. Arthur Eze has continued to distinguish himself as a builder of people, creator of opportunities and philanthropist whose impact cuts across generations,” it said.

Similarly, Umahi’s recognition with the Pillar of the South-East Bridge Builder Award is in acknowledgement of his contributions to infrastructure development and his role in advancing road and bridge projects across the region.
The council said the award was intended to celebrate individuals whose contributions had made significant impacts on the development and progress of the South-East.
The annual Press Week provides a platform for journalists and other stakeholders to examine developments in the media industry, governance and national development.
This year’s celebration is expected to bring together prominent personalities from different sectors to celebrate excellence and promote dialogue on the media’s role in strengthening democratic accountability and public trust.
