Nigeria Polo game is the best in Africa- Senator Jega

Senator Haliru Jega has described Nigerian Polo game as the best in Africa which other African countries are always looking forward to emulate.

Jega who is a chairman Senate committee on police affairs, vice President Kaduna Polo club and patron Dokaji Polo team said Polo game has over the years serve as a tourist attractions which is contributing immensely to the socio-economic development of the country.

He disclosed this to sport writers in Jos, Plateau State capital at the ongoing 2021 edition of the Jos international Polo tournament.

According to Jega, ” the Nigeria Polo has come to stay. Nigeria Polo is the best in Africa. So I think other countries in Africa are trying to emulate what is happening in Nigeria.

“As you can see now we are in Jos for participation and God willing on the 8th January, 2022 were going to Port Harcourt. So my horses from here are moving to Port Harcourt straight because Port Harcourt Polo will celebrating their 40th years golden jubilee tournament. So we are going to celebrate with our colleagues and our members in Port Harcourt Polo club.”

He explained the rationale behind the police community policing Polo tournament which took place in Abuja in 2020.

“The whole concept of the community policing tournament is to bring closer the community towards policing their environment. And to also bring the Police and the civilians together to re-emphasize the need for synergy between the police and the community when it comes policing that is the whole idea.

“We do that through game in which Polo is the game which we intend to advocate for that, and hopefully we are going to hold another Polo tournament this year 2022.

“Well, the game entirely is about luck and it is normal because you sometime win and loss. Like in Kaduna we became the runner up and in Abuja we won and I want to win the cup in Jos too!

“You see as a legislator we don’t have a specific time for Polo because we work round the clock. I just dedicated two days or late just say I dedicated two hours of two days for this tournament because I have to stay fit and healthy”, Jega mentioned.
