Lagos auto spare parts market fire: Buhari, Jandor, Gbadebo, others commiserate with victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has learned with deep sadness the death of a 65-year-old security guard, the loss of personal property and means of livelihood of some hardworking Nigerians at the Akere Spare Parts market in the Apapa Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

The President’s deepest sympathies are with the traders and their families, who bear the brunt of this unfortunate incident and are at crossroads of what to do after this temporary setback.

The President is equally concerned that a similar fire incident occurred at the popular Balogun market a few weeks ago, calling on relevant authorities to take precautions to stem the tide.

While the full extent and cause of the damage is being assessed, President Buhari commends the Lagos State Fire Service for responding to the incident, salvaging a nearby filling station with a 33,000 litres PMS tanker, amongst other adjoining buildings.

Also, There was a wave of excitement as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, donated N15 million to shop owners whose shops were burnt at Akere Spare Parts Market, Ajegunle, in the Apapa area of Lagos State.

On Wednesday morning, a fire broke out at the Spare Parts Market, destroying goods worth millions of naira.

The cheers from the crowd drowned the rest of the announcement as the excited traders lifted Rhodes-Vivour in appreciation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR) the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party – PDP in Lagos state received with heavy heart the news of the fire incident at Akere Motor Spare parts market, Kirikiri Road, Olodi, Apapa in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA in the early ours of today. There has been reports and allegations that the market was burnt down by suspected thugs loyal to the ruling APC to intimidate the traders of the market into voting for their candidate or totally disenfranchising them.

It is important to protect the investment of people who are doing business in the state and to ensure that their places of trade are protected to promote enterprenuership in the state.

In the same light, the issue of allegedly using of thugs and touts to harass and intimidate residents of the state to the extent of destroying their means of livelihood is inimical to the economic development of the state and our party condemn such in it’s totality.

We are using this opportunity to console the traders in the market over their loss and to reassure them that the government of PDP under the leadership of Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR) their investment will be protected.
