Intervention team meets CONAECDA

The Intervention Team, Friday, met with the Leaders of the Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities Community Development Associations (CONAECDA), in Jos, Plateau State. The meeting convened at the instance of Izumunna Igbo Cultural Association was to interface with a network of all grassroots-based indigenous and Autochthonous Ethnic Nationalities leaders of 15 States of Central Nigeria and Middlebelt.    CONAECDA members are a cultural mosaic comprising over 400 diverse ethnicities, languages and religions with an estimated voting strength of over 20.5m.

Speaking at the meeting, the Head of Intervention, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna informed them that the Obi-data project is for them as Peter Obi’s emphasis is for all to “Take back Nigeria”. Their quest to take back their lands can only be actualised under President Peter Obi whose mantra is to enthrone justice, equity and fairness to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion. He urged them to support Obi and to vote massively for him during the forthcoming Presidential Elections.

Speaking on behalf of CONAECDA, Prof Yusufu Turaki, gave a background history of their subjugations in their own land and how they desire to take what ac their own. Having tried both PDP and APC without success, they wish they will get it under a President Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The highlight of the engaging evening meeting was the Presentation of a 15-page Political Charter of Demands detailing what they expect in a Peter Obi presidency.

The core point of their demands include

The constitutional guarantee of the rights and freedoms of indigenous peoples and communities; protection of minority rights; promotion of the principle of justice and equity, Restructuring of Nigeria; Setting up of Religious Equity Commission: State creation; power rotation; Status of FCT and practical commitment to Nigeria’s economic development among others.
