Group gives Tinubu 7 days ultimatum to stop killings, insecurity

AHMED MARI, Maiduguri

A group, under the umbrella of Arewa Coalition Against insecurity has given President Bola Tinubu and the military 7 days ultimatum to end killing in the North and other parts of the country or they will mobilize millions of Nigerians on street protest.

The group in a statement signed by the convener, Adamu Mohammed and made available to journalusts said
“In light of these distressing developments, the Arewa Coalition Against Insecurity urgently calls upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action by relieving the service Chiefs of their duties without delay. We implore the President to initiate a comprehensive overhaul of the security architecture, ushering in a new era of leadership capable of confronting the daunting challenges of our times head-on.”

“It is imperative that swift and decisive measures be taken to restore the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people in our security apparatus. The time for action is now, and we stand ready to work alongside the government in safeguarding the future of our nation and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens, the group added.

” It is with grave concern that we declare the current leadership of the military and security agencies as ineffective and inept, failing to stem the tide of insecurity that threatens the very fabric of our society.We wish to serve this as a notice to Mr President that in the next 7 days, we will mobilise millions of Nigerians particularly across the northern regions to the streets to demand further action”, the group said.

The group said ” in the face of escalating insecurity plaguing our nation, the Arewa Coalition Against Insecurity stands resolute, deeply concerned by the relentless surge in criminal activities, particularly the alarming rate of abductions targeting school children in the North and the persistent farmer-herder clashes crippling agricultural productivity”.

Mohammed said “recent reports have revealed a distressing development where a staggering ransom of 1 billion Naira was purportedly paid to bandits for the release of the abducted Kuriga school children. The brazen display of such wealth, transported in cash-laden motorbikes, only serves to embolden these criminal elements, paving the way for more audacious attacks against the nation’s interests. The question remains: who are the masterminds behind these heinous acts, and who are the enablers providing them with support?”

“”It is evident that the complicity of security agencies’ leadership and Service Chiefs in these nefarious activities poses a grave threat to our national sovereignty, undermining the very essence of our collective security,”, they further said.
