A promotion examination conducted by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission was on Tuesday marred by an alleged case of impersonation after a 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, was caught allegedly writing the examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.

The incident occurred on the third day of the ongoing promotion examination at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the venue for the exercise.

Monsuru was reportedly apprehended by security personnel deployed for the examination on the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that his father was ill but remained within the NOUN premises while the examination was in progress. He admitted that he was instructed by his father to sit the examination on his behalf.

When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru told investigators that Musa Mohammed was between 67 and 68 years old.

However, the father gave a different account, insisting that he would attain the age of 60 in February 2027.

The inconsistencies deepened during further questioning when Musa Mohammed stated that he completed his secondary school education in 1982 after finishing primary school in 1977.

Following the interrogation and the recording of their statements by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), both the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation.

The authorities are expected to continue investigations into the alleged impersonation and any other offences arising from the incident.
