Buhari cautions supporters against humiliating opposition members

President Muhammadu Buhari has cautioned his supporters not to humiliate the opposition as they celebrate his victory at the just concluded presidential election.

According to him, his re-election for a second term should serve as enough reward for their hard work and mitigate any grievance they might have harboured in the course of electioneering.

Buhari made the appeal in the early hours of Wednesday in a speech he delivered at the campaign headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where party stalwarts and supporters received him shortly after he was declared as winner of Saturday’s presidential election.

“I will like to make a special appeal to my supporters not to gloat or humiliate the opposition. Victory is enough reward for your efforts,” he said.

President Buhari also said his new administration will sustain the fight against corruption and promote security of lives and property, even as he pledged inclusiveness to end allegations of marginalization of parts of the country.

He said: “The new Administration will intensify its efforts in Security, Restructuring the Economy and Fighting Corruption. We have laid down the foundation and we are committed to seeing matters to the end. We will strive to strengthen our unity and inclusiveness so that no section or group will feel left behind or left out.”

He thanked millions of Nigerians whose votes made his victory at the polls possible, as well as the teeming local and foreign observers for supporting the electoral process.
