Member representing Askira-Uba/ Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, Hon. Dr. Midala Usman Balami and members of the Elders Council in the constituency have called on President Bola Tinubu, the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum and the heads of the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to work round the clock to secure the immediate release of students and teachers from the area that were abducted by insurgents in their schools
The lawmaker and the group represented by the Secretary of the Council Mr Gadzama Apagu spoke at a press conference entitled: “Bring Our Children Home-100 Days of Horror, Pain And Suffering Is Enough” at the House of Representatives Press Corps National Assembly, Abuja on Friday
They said that they are concerned citizens of Borno State and Nigeria who stood with broken hearts, but also with determination and an urgent demand to the federal and state governments and security agencies to bring their children home.
According to them, for 100 days, families have lived through unimaginable pain, anxiety, fear and suffering following the abduction of their children and loved ones.
They noted that among those abducted are 42 pupils and students from Mussa Primary and Junior Day Secondary School, who were abducted on 15 May 2026 in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
They further noted that on that same day, schoolchildren and teachers were also abducted in Oyo State by hoodlums suspected to be insurgents.
However, whereas the Oyo victims were subsequently rescued, the families of the Mussa victims continue to wait for the safe return of their loved ones.
They also remembered that the students abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, on 29 June 2026, while they were writing their National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations, are still in captivity.
According to them, reports and community records indicate that 36 students remain missing following the attack.
They pointed out that these children were abducted while pursuing their education adding that they are children whose primary concern should have been completing their examinations, returning home safely and building their futures.
They therefore demanded the immediate rescue of the 42 pupils and students from Mussa Primary and Junior Day Secondary School who were abducted on May 15, 2026 and another 38 persons reportedly abducted along the Buratai Road to Maiduguri, as well as all those taken along the Chibok route and other major and vulnerable routes across Borno State.
These abductees, they said are sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as well as wives and husbands of their people who they live and interact with on a daily basis
While making a direct appeal to the President and Governor Zulum to intervene and secure the release of these teachers and students, they added that 100 days without their children is too long.
