Topfaith Schools top student wins N1.5m cash prize

In a remarkable feat, Master Emmanuel Zekhome, a scholar from Topfaith Schools in Mkpatak, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, has won a cash prize of N1.5m from the school management for emerging as the top performer in the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE).

According to the Chairman of Topfaith Schools, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, the prize was instituted to encourage students to strive for academic excellence.

“We believe in spurring our students to reach for the top, and this prize is a testament to that philosophy,” he said.

The school’s excellent performance in this year’s WAEC examinations was not a coincidence, but the result of a deliberate approach by teachers, parents, and students. Out of 193 candidates presented by the school, the first 40 students scored higher grades, with three students achieving an impressive 8 ‘A’s each in 9 subjects.

Dr. Abraham expressed confidence that the school’s products will excel in this year’s university admission exercise.

“With their impressive grades, our students are poised to take the academic world by storm,” he said.

“The SSCE for this year is much higher in performance than last year . The breakdown shows the first 40 students by our assessment did well.

“Out of this number, the first three students scored 8 ‘A’s each and one “B” because our students offered 9 subjects each in the examinations. So within the 9 subject areas, three of them scored ‘A’ s parallel and one “B” each . Following them immediately is another set of 12 students scoring 6 “A”s parallel and three “B”s and between 5 and “4”s are the rest of the students we presented for the exams.

“We actually presented 193 candidates for 2024 Senior Secondary  School Certificate  Examinations ( SSCE) . The students were intentionally groomed to achieve this scores . This intention will gain momentum because from the media , I read that the University of Calabar in this year is using grade point  to screen JAMB candidates for admission  . This means that by the time you have 9 or 8 ‘A’s it is something to remember that such student carried an aggregate points of 10 in nine subjects, we will have 5 as aggregates.

Abraham said nobody will compete with the products of the school for this year’s university admission .

“Then nobody will compete with our products for this university admission exercise. This is the beauty of this kind of performance shown by our students. We thank God that our intentional approach in grooming the students to achieve this excellence have been blessed by God, activated by our students and moderated by our teachers,” he added.
