2027: Yari leads APC campaign to Ooni, Emir of Ilorin for royal blessings

Cyril Mbah, Abuja

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has led chieftains of the party on consultative visits to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari to seek their blessings for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a statement from his media office, the visits to the revered monarchs in Oyo and Kwara States were aimed at deepening engagement with traditional institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement said the visits were designed to strengthen engagement, foster mutual understanding, and seek the support, blessings and counsel of traditional leaders as part of the Council’s ongoing nationwide consultations.

It clarified that the visits were not to seek political endorsement or mobilisation support, but rather to seek prayers and blessings, underscoring the moral and spiritual anchorage traditional rulers provide in the nation’s political process.

Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Yari expressed confidence that the APC would retain Kwara State by winning the presidential, governorship and National and State Assembly seats.

The former Zamfara State governor cited progress recorded in the state since 2019, including resolution of challenges in education and healthcare delivery, establishment of new hospitals and far-reaching reforms.

He said the campaign would leverage the strength of the party and landmark achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, to extend its influence nationally.

The statement noted that the royal visits marked the formal commencement of a nationwide consultative tour to traditional and political leaders across the country, building consensus and gathering blessings ahead of campaign activities leading to January 16, 2027.

It added that the visits underscored recognition of the pivotal role traditional rulers play in promoting peace, unity and stability, and reaffirmed commitment to carrying all stakeholders along in the build-up to elections.

Yari was accompanied by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, former Speaker Aminu Masari, Senators Adamu Aliero, Ali Modu Sheriff, Rochas Okorocha, Ahmad Sani Yarima, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Danjuma Goje, former governors of Kebbi, Borno, Imo, Zamfara, Jigawa and Gombe, Ibrahim Shema and Olusegun Mimiko, former governors of Katsina and Ondo, and former Speaker Dimeji Bankole.
