Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, has called on insurance brokers in Nigeria to play a more strategic role in deepening insurance penetration, mobilising long-term investments for infrastructure development, and supporting the nation’s economic growth.
Speaking at the 2026 National Insurance Brokers Conference and Exhibition held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, under the theme “Insurance: Infrastructure Financing & National Development Agenda,” the Commissioner underscored the critical role of insurance brokers as key drivers of risk management, consumer protection, and investment mobilisation.
Mr. Omosehin described the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 as a landmark legislative framework designed to strengthen the industry’s financial resilience, enhance corporate governance, improve accountability, and reinforce public confidence in insurance institutions. He urged brokers to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism, embrace innovation and emerging digital technologies, and maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Reaffirming NAICOM’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more transparent, and customer-focused insurance sector, the Commissioner encouraged brokers to forge strategic partnerships across critical sectors of the economy to unlock new investment opportunities and accelerate national development.
He further challenged stakeholders to move beyond dialogue by translating the outcomes of the conference into measurable actions that will advance the industry’s contribution to economic transformation.
