Cyril Mbah, Abuja
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) on Sunday inaugurated its Directorate of Intelligence and Security ahead of campaigns for the 2027 general election.
The inauguration, which brought together retired top military officers, security experts and party chieftains both physically and virtually across the country, marks a key milestone in preparations to return President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
Chairman of the Directorate’s Secretariat, Prof. A.A. Ciroma, said the occasion represents more than formal inauguration, but an organised, responsive and professionally grounded framework for security and intelligence support to the campaign.
He thanked President Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda and said effective campaign planning requires sound situational awareness, timely intelligence assessment, systematic risk management and preparedness for emerging challenges within the framework of the Constitution.
Director of Intelligence and Security, retired General Sarkin Yaki Bello, said the national exercise demands discipline, sound judgement, strategic coordination and commitment to the safety of President Tinubu, and the integrity of the democratic process.
He said the President’s decades of public service, including as Lagos governor and President, form the record the campaign must communicate accurately with dignity, noting that a nationwide campaign involves extensive travels, large gatherings and rapidly changing circumstances.
According to him, the Directorate’s work must be grounded in credible information, prevention through preparation, professional intelligence assessment, coordination with authorised security agencies, protection of lives, democratic integrity and disciplined communication.
He warned against treating rumours as facts and urged that confidential information must be handled lawfully, stressing that loyalty to the President must be expressed through integrity, personal service and willingness to question unverified claims.
On his part, Major General A.T. Ibrahim said the task requires synergy with all security services from highest level to the polling units, describing the job as simple and strategic to ensure the President is returned in 2027.
Minister of Defence and Secretary of the Directorate, General Christopher Musa (retd), said security is paramount and key to success, noting that opposition may use the economy and insecurity to drive narratives and that teamwork across regions and states is critical.
Chairman, Operations and Field Coordination, General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd), charged members to remember that the job is just starting with the flag-off this weekend, saying they will be tasked to go to various states to deliver.
Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (retd), said without security there is chaos, pledging to make the campaign process safe and secure as one of the most important tasks in the council.
Representing the APC National Chairman, Deputy National Secretary Prof. Abubakar Kana, commended the Directorate for self-mobilisation and discipline, saying the party met the country in disarray in 2015, and that the Directorate must clear paths, confirm venues safe and remain even after events until everyone leaves safely.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of inaugurated officers and members, the Directorate pledged to approach assignments with humility, discipline, professionalism, accurate reporting, confidentiality and teamwork, promising to place institutional objectives above personal interests to justify the confidence reposed in them.
