VICTOR DURUAMAKU – OWERRI

A youth group in the South-East known as “Concerned Youths” has resolved to checkmate political parties that would carry out violent campaigns or use thugs to disrupt the peace of the people during electioneering campaigns.

The coordinator of this group, comrd. Joshua Ibeji, disclose its resolve, while presenting a communiqué at the end of their meeting held in Owerri Wednesday.

He said the group recalled with dismay, the incident in the past, where some political parties sponsor and carry out acts of hooliganism, during the electioneering campaigns of other political parties.

According to him, “this act of hooliganism is very uncivilized particularly in this era of political awareness”.

He urged political parties to maintain absolute decorum in their campaigns and avoid the use of “hate speech” to foment trouble, pointing out that in recent times, the South-East Geo-political zone of this country has lost so many youths.

Groups will not tolerate the death of any other youth particularly during the campaigns and the election proper.

However, the sole Administrator of Mbaitoli local government area of the state, Chief Chinasa Opara, told our correspondent that his party the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state has been very civil in all its activities.

He said that the party is well prepared to commence its campaign in the local area without any hitch adding that the party being the ruling party has conducted its activities in a most decorous manner.

According to him, “in APC, we are well prepared for the election and the people should support the state governor Hope Uzodimma.
