Truck driver kills commercial cyclist in Ondo community

An unidentified Okada rider has been crushed to death Thursday afternoon at the notorious Okerigho hills in the University town of Akungba, Akoko Southwest Local Government.

The incident however took a new dimension when Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) from Ikare-Akoko were disallowed by irate youth in the area to carry the corpse of the deceased cyclist.

According to the unit commander, Mr. Oluropo Alabi, his men made frantic efforts to carry the corpse to the mortuary bur the irate youths disallowed them and even threatened to destroy their vehicle.

The aggrieved miscreants later set the trailer ablaze thereby causing tension in the community.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Akungba-Akoko , Shakiru Ajibola (CSP) confirmed the accident.

According to him, he led his men to the scene of the accident and was able to carry remains of the dead okada man.

The police chief noted that they have tried to make the road from Akungba to Ikare free for motorists.

A community leader from Akungba Akoko, Mr. Adeboye Ado, renewed the call to be cautious of incessant motor accidents at Okerigbo leading to loss of lives and properties.
