. As Army drives 49 projects to boost personnel welfare
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have neutralised 44 suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in several offensive operations across Borno State.
The operations also left scores of terrorists injured, while their vehicles, motorcycles and improvised explosive device materials were destroyed.
Similarly, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE have arrested two suspected logistics suppliers linked to bandits in Benue State.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has inaugurated 49 welfare and infrastructure projects across the country to improve personnel welfare, enhance operational efficiency and address accommodation challenges facing officers and soldiers.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a press statement on Thursday morning.
Goni said, “Troops of OPHK have sustained their offensive against terrorist elements through coordinated intelligence-led operations across the theatre.”
According to him, on October 26, 2026, troops engaged suspected terrorists at separate locations in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, following intelligence reports and surveillance observations.
“Battle damage assessment indicated that 28 terrorists were neutralised, while six others reportedly sustained injuries,” he said.
Goni further noted that on October 28, 2026, the Maritime Component, Naval Base Lake Chad, deployed in Baga, conducted offensive operations against terrorist targets in the Lake Chad area.
“Preliminary assessments indicated that eight terrorists were neutralised, while 10 others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he stated.
He added that an air interdiction mission separately disrupted a suspected terrorist improvised explosive device (IED)-laying operation, neutralising eight operatives and destroying their vehicle, motorcycles and IED materials.
“The operation prevented the terrorist team from proceeding with its planned activity.
“These successes reflect the sustained pressure being exerted on terrorist networks through intelligence-led joint operations,” Goni explained.
He noted that OPHK remained committed to degrading terrorist capabilities, restricting their freedom of action and protecting communities across the North-East.
The Theatre Command urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the theatre.
On Monday, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed 16 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters during coordinated air and artillery strikes on three suspected terrorist locations in the Tunbunma area of South Lake Chad.
The operation was carried out following intelligence reports indicating the presence of key terrorist leaders and fighters in the area.
In a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE on X on Thursday, soldiers of Sector 1 acted on intelligence and detained the suspects in Abaji Community.
The men, identified as Tertser Terngu, 24, and Aondongu Tersoo, 15, both from Tersoo Village, allegedly provided logistical support to a bandit kingpin operating across the River Yooyo in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
Both suspects are currently in custody for investigation and further processing by the appropriate agencies.
In a related operation the same day, troops responding to an armed robbery report at Jootar Village along the Kyado–Wukari Road in Ukum Local Government Area found that Volunteer Guards had already apprehended two suspected armed robbers.
Items recovered included one locally made pistol, seven rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, and a pair of scissors.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops and urged them to maintain operational tempo and continue using timely intelligence to tackle criminal activities in the area.
On the inauguration, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this on Thursday, during the commissioning of a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja.
The facility was among 11 projects commissioned in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while 38 others were inaugurated across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu said the projects aligned with his Command Philosophy, particularly the pillars of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which prioritise personnel welfare in building a professional, adaptable and combat-ready force.
He said adequate accommodation and essential infrastructure were critical to boosting morale, improving productivity and strengthening the Army’s capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The COAS said, “The projects underscore the Nigerian Army’s sustained commitment to providing a conducive living and working environment for officers, soldiers and their families.”
He charged officers who would occupy the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility and uphold the highest standards of discipline and responsibility.
Shaibu also reaffirmed his commitment to sustained investment in welfare and infrastructure across Army formations and units nationwide, while appreciating President Bola Tinubu for his continued support to the Nigerian Army.
