Taraba State Police command warn against religious politics

The Commissioner of Police Taraba State Command CP Yusuf. A. Suleiman has warn politicians in Taraba State to desist from using religion as means of politicking.

He gave the warning in a press statement signed by the state public relations officer Abdulahi Usman. The statement reads,

“In a bid to ensure a smooth and conducive atmosphere for the successful conduct of the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections coming up on the 11/3/2023, in the State and the country at large, and sequel to the trending hate peach on social media associated with inter religious antagonism within and outside the State by some political and Religion bodies, which is intended to cause breach of peace by inciting their followers to engage in inter Religious conflict in the State, contrary to the electoral Act 2022. The Commissioner of Police has condemned in totality the trending religious political campaign of calumny.

In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police has charged all stakeholders in the State to eschew violence and preach peace, tolerance, and rule of law to their teaming followers. He further stressed that, leaders and members of various religious communities should encourage all individuals and groups to approach political discussions with humility, open-mindedness, and willingness to listen to diverse perspectives. He urges citizens in the State to avoid using religious language or symbols to promote political agendas that marginalize or exclude others.

Finally, the Commissioner of Police is calling on religious leaders to educate their congregations about the importance of peaceful discourse, coexistence and collaboration on political matters. He therefore, assures the good people of Taraba State that the Taraba State Police Command under his watch will not hesitate to protect law-abiding citizens and deal decisively with troublemakers and enemies of peace.
