EMMANUEL AWARI, Jalingo

The Taraba State Police Commissioner, David Akinremi, said on Thursday that the command  was investigating last week’s attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Sani Danladi Abubakar and his campaign team in Wukari.

He announced this through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Tafida, who represented him at the signing of peace accord by the APC gubernatorial candidate at the command headquarters in Jalingo, the state capital..

The police commissioner described the attack as unfortunate and assured that the command would provide adequate security during and after the elections in the state.

The APC gubernatorial candidate had earlier expressed dismay over the action of the Police Divisional Officer in charge of Wukari, whom he said refused to respond to distress calls to him during the attack on the pretencee that he was not informed of the visit to the town by the candidate.

Sani Danladi stated further that before he embarked on the campaign tour, he had written and obtained approval from the State police commissioner.

He said the attack on his campaign team was an attempt to assassinate him, adding that he was against all forms of thuggery.

Meanwhile, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Aaron Artimas, said many vehicles were burnt and items looted by the assailants.

He said the attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate and his convoy was well planned and coordinated by the state government “and now the same government is shamelessly accusing APC of carrying out the attack.”

Reacting to the allegations, Mr. Bala Dan Abu, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, repeatedly denied involvement of the state government in the attack.
