Urges  monarchs, religious leaders to end violence in region

The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Professor George Obiozor, has tasked Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders from the South-East geo-political zone of the country to strive and intensify campaign geared towards ending  the rampaging violence and other reckless killing prevalence  in the zone.

 

Professor made the assertion in abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital on Wednesday while addressing a large gathering of Igbo stakeholders, Royal Fathers, opinion Leaders women and youths from the zone on the occasion marking the celebration of  2021-Igbo Day Celebration.

 

He urged the administration of President Muhammadu to do everything possible to prevent Nigeria from being a failed State.

 

In a message titled “Stop Anarchy in Igboland” and delivered on his behalf by the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Organisation Dr Peter Mbam, Professor Obiozor called for a halt in the spilling of Blood in Igboland.

 

“Our mission today is a solemn message for Ndigbo so that when we go, we tell others not present  here that Igbo Nation is under siege”

 

“We demand that Nigeria Federation be sustained, the country must be a Union of Equal Components Units where each must have the ability to survive.

 

Professor Obiozor expressed dismay that something outside the usual objectives of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) was now taking place.

 

“We repeat our preference for Dialogue rather than violence, Ohaneze Ndigbo will collaborate with the Church”

 

In a speech, the Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Ambassador Okey Emuche, reiterated that there was a problem in Igbo Nation.

 

Ambassador Emuche enjoined genuine men of God to intervene in the prevailing insecurity in the south-east.

 

“The people killing human beings do not come from outside, we must fish them out”

 

“We have a problem in Igbo Nation, our problem is inside, insecurity in one State of Igboland is insecurity in other states”

 

“Igbo must seek the face of God, if the Church does not step in , the gains we made from 1970 till date will be wiped out”

 

Earlier in a remark, Governor David Umahi represented by the Secretary to State Government Dr Kenneth Ugballa, said that there was still hope for Ndigbo.

 

“All our problems are self inflicted, if we can unite things will be better for the citizenry of the zone”

 

Governor Umahi decried the sit-at-order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wondering “how can human and commercial activities be going on in other parts of the country while the south east zone remain stagnated”

 

In an exhortation, the South-East Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, advocated for a reflection on how Ndigbo came about.

 

The South-East CAN Chairman urged Ohaneze Ndigbo, Church leaders, Traditional Rulers, Business Moguls and political leaders from the zone to synegize, unite and form a common front.

 

“Ohaneze Ndigbo must be one, if we are not united enemies will infiltrate us, traditional Rulers from the zone must unite and discuss Igbo Matters”

 

“The lessons of today is Unity and cohesion , Igbo are not united, we must dialogue in every issue concerning the zone”

 

The Igbo Day Celebration was earmarked for celebration on every 29th of September each year  to remember and pray for the repose of souls of Ndigbo killed during the 1967 Civil war and other crisis that have bedevilled the zone .
