Meanwhile, Residents of Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of the Southeast zone, Tuesday sent a Save Our Soul, SOS, appeal to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State, begging him to come to their rescue by evacuating mountains of refuse that have taken over the community.

Making the appeal, they feared that with the coming rainy season there would be spread of epidemic as the stench odour oozing out from the various refuse dump sites has sent residents living within the dump sites axis packing.

According to the state chairman of Civil liberties Organization, CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, “this problem of mountains of refuse taking over Onitsha started barely two months to the swearing -in of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo .

“We pray the Governor will do something before the rainy season sets in if not their will be serious epidemic spread .

The refuse dumps are all over the place and the worst is that some residential buildings are being covered by the refuse. Some of the roads are now blocked by the refuse.”

Contributing, the chairman,  Board of Trustees, BOT, Association of Music, Film Producers And Marketers of Nigeria, AMUFPMAN, Chief Ubaoha Uzoma, stated that the evacuation should be done immediately to avert epidemic spread.

“We urge our able Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo to immediately evacuate the refuse before the rainy season sets in”

“Some of these refuse dump sites  that have taken the roads now have become a night mare to the residents. We hope the evacuation will take place before this rainy season sets in. Once the rainy season sets in it will be worse for us because I have my office close to the Awka road/Okosi junction.”

“The owners of the buildings there and residents suffer untold stench odour apart from the refuse that has taken over their  buildings”

Among the places the refuse dump sites have become nuisance to the residents of Onitsha include, Okosi junction/Awka road, Ochanja round-about, Bida/Creek road, Premier Breweries/Expressway, QRC/Oguta road and Okosi /Umuikem road/Ukwuoji.

Others are, Ojedi/Oguta road, modebe Avenue, court road, Down fly-over/motor spare parts market, among others.END.
