Anambra state Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has assured Nnobi displaced traders of a new marketplace soon as land was made available.
Chief Hamilton Ezeonu, Hamthel boss and founder of the Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), stated this at the weekend while addressing the displaced traders at Sahara Center Ifite Nnobi, shortly before distributing some bags of rice to them.
Ezeonu, a community leader in Nnobi said Governor Soludo has assured that a new marketplace would be ready for the traders soon as the Nnobi Town leaders provided a space of land to relocate the Afor Nnobi market.
He said the reason the new market had not been built was allegedly due to the inability of the town leaders and a former president general of the town to provide the land due to alleged unpleasant relationship between the said President general , the townand the Anambra state government, a sad development he said had increased the suffering of the traders.
The traders were made of those whose shops were demolished following the construction of roads at the Nnobi Junction and other displaced persons were at the Sahara Center Ifite Nnobi to receive some bags of rice and undisclosed sum of money made available to them and other displaced persons by the NGO.
Ezeonu who disclosed this also stated that he and other stakeholders of Nnobi met with Governor Soludo recently over the plight of the traders and relocation of the market.
He added that the meeting yielded positive results as the governor’s response was encouraging. He said Governor Soludo was ready to build the new market place soon as the land was made available to government. He pledged the sum ten million naira to the traders as further relief assistance to aid their relocation, adding that he would work with their market leaders to continue to render assistance to them.
Ezeonu’s statement is allegedly coming at time when so much lamentations and negative criticisms have greeted the ongoing road construction cum demolition of structures along the roads across Anambra state.
Some of the traders who did not want their names mentioned, while expressing appreciation, told Daily Champion that Ezeonu’s explanation had removed their worries and acted as relief to their pains.
