The Bayelsa State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area following a breakdown of law and order in the area.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, was ordered by Governor Douye Diri on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of measures to contain the security situation and restore peace to the affected community.
The governor’s directive followed briefings from security commanders on developments in Biseni, where some individuals had reportedly barricaded roads leading into and within the community and set bonfires disrupting movement and threatening public order.
In response to the situation, Diri directed security operatives to take necessary measures to restore law and order, safeguard residents and ensure the protection of lives and property.
The governor stressed the need for peace and security in the community, urging residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and refrain from any actions capable of worsening the situation.
He also appealed to law abiding members of the community to maintain peace, assuring them that the state government would continue to take appropriate measures to guarantee their safety.
The imposition of the curfew is aimed at containing the security challenge and enabling security agencies to carry out their duties towards restoring normalcy in Biseni.
Residents are expected to comply with the directive as security operatives work to re-establish order in the community, the state government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across Bayelsa State.
