Rising level of insecurity in Nigeria major minus for the FG – Security expert

A security Expert and criminologist, Dr Frederick Agumba Obi, believes that the present high level of insecurity in Nigeria is a major minus to the image of the Federal Government.

According to him, ” the high level of crime and criminality, including kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, insurgency and all forms of crime which have been on the increase in recent times is a big minus to the image of Nigeria both here and abroad”.

Reacting to the recent attacks, including the most worrisome attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Dr Obi said this situation is an insult and embarrassing to Nigeria as country. 

Chatting with journalists in Owerri Imo State Thursday, the security expert believes that the Government cannot shy away from this fact but rise up to its responsibility of protecting its   citizenry. 

He expressed worry that military institution like the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) could be penitrated by the bandits who killed and abducted military officers.

This he stressed showed that no place is safe now urging the Government to do something to check mate the level of insecurity in the country.

 He said that for the bandits to succeed in their mission at the NDA it means there must be more to it that the eye can see therefore he went on, something must be done before the entire country is consumed. 

Dr Obi, however, called on the management of the institution to carry out proper security screening to fish out internal accomplice if any at all pointing out that such excecise would strengthen the security network of the institution. 

He also called on the security Agency responsible for the Nigerian boarders to rise up to the responsibility by strictly checking the uncontrolled influx of arms and ammunition in to the country through the borders.

Again Dr Obi noted that religion plays major role in the security and unity of any Nation pointing out that religious leaders in the country should monitored and be made to do the right thing by teaching their followers the need why there should be religious tolerance and understanding. 

According to him, Nigeria been a country of multiple religion, there should be religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
