Police rescue two American Embassy staff kidnapped by hoodlums in Anambra

Police in Anambra State have announced the rescue of two United States Consulate staff who went missing after the attack on their convoy that left two of its staff dead at Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

The attack which happened on Tuesday also left four police officers and a driver dead 

Some of those killed were burnt in their vehicles, while two staff of the embassy were taken hostage by the hoodlums.

A press release signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga on Friday said that two of the kidnapped staff of the embassy were rescued on Friday morning by security operatives.

The statement partly read, “In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, the joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy attack along Atani/Osomalla road in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.

“Operations are still ongoing further details will be communicated to journalists.”

No details of the rescue were given, including the location or any other information on the state of health of the rescued victims.

The attack on the officials had been condemned by the Nigerian government, American Government, Anambra State government and several other institutions and individuals alike.
