The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its renewed intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes with the neutralisation of two suspected members of a criminal gang along the Eziowelle Road.
The operation, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence that a group of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers was operating in the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives swiftly mobilised to the location and, upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a gun duel.
Ikenga said two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the encounter, while other members of the gang escaped from the scene with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
He disclosed that the police operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun and five live cartridges from the scene.
The latest operation further underscores the determination of the Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, to intensify intelligence gathering and proactive operations against criminal elements across the state.
The command said it had commenced further investigations and intensified efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
The police assured residents that sustained operations would continue until criminal networks threatening the peace and security of the state are dismantled.
The command further stated that additional developments on the operation would be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
