Moniepoint restructures engineering, product teams to drive efficiency, growth

Moniepoint has announced the restructuring of its Engineering and Product functions, introducing a platform architect role to drive deeper operational efficiency and accelerate growth across the business.

The company, in a statement, said this restructuring is part of its regular strategic review of operations.

Over the past decade, Moniepoint has grown from a single product into a group of financial services businesses serving businesses and their customers.

The growth has been built on proprietary technology, developed in-house and designed for the scale and realities of African commerce.

Also, as the company continues to expand, the way it builds and operates must evolve with it.

“As part of Moniepoint’s regular strategic review of operations, the management is restructuring the Engineering and Product functions for the next stage of growth.

“The company is moving to a structure of platform groups made up of small, focused product-area teams, each owning what it builds from end to end.

“This model is designed for a business of the company’s size and ambition, giving teams greater autonomy and clearer accountability, while enabling faster product development, greater operational reliability, more consistent service for a growing customer base, and smoother expansion into new markets.

“Through its suite of financial services, Moniepoint supports businesses and individuals with payments, banking, credit and business management solutions.

“Its platform enables merchants to accept payments, manage cash flow and access tools to grow, while connecting individuals to everyday banking services,” the statement reads.

With a strong presence in Nigeria’s informal economy and an agent network spanning all 774 local government areas, the company is expanding access to financial services in diverse communities, as well as expanding its operations in Kenya.

Across its subsidiaries, the company processes more than $400 billion in annual digital payment transaction value, reflecting its scale and contribution to Nigeria’s commercial ecosystem.

The new structure requires fewer roles in some areas, while creating new ones, including platform architects who will design and oversee the systems each platform group builds on.

Platform architects will be part of our broader Product Operating Model (POM) and architectural governance, which govern solutions, platform capabilities, and technical foundations central to the structural redesign of how Moniepoint builds, operates, and scales.

As a result, some existing roles will become redundant. Where possible, the management will consider employees in these roles for open positions across the business.

It is only where none is identified that a redundancy consultation process will be initiated.

Engineering and product remain central to Moniepoint, and management is grateful to everyone for their contribution and remains confident this new structure will make Moniepoint stronger for customers, its people, and partners.
