The Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, has congratulated the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for his election at the just concluded party primary.

Dr Ortom said, “In John 3.27, the Bible says a man can receive nothing except it’s given to him from above.

“So, for the benefit of all Nigerians for whom we strive to make society better, let us now come together under the party’s leadership and be focused by winning the 2023 general election.

“To restore the dignity of Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora.

“I believe that with your experience and goodwill across all facets of this nation, your election as the standard bearer of the PDP is a clear sign that the party has begun the historic journey back to power in 2023.

“I’m confident that you will put forward your election to restore security in every nook and cranny of the country, revive our economy, and bring back Nigeria’s dignity, where the sanctity of human lives of all Nigerian citizens will be respected.

“This will also make the social life of every Nigerian much more meaningful as you will rescue Nigeria,” he said.

Governor Ortom, who said the presidential primary exercise was credible and transparent, also commended all the other presidential aspirants, especially Governor Nyesom Wike for exhibiting courage, patriotism and extraordinary spirit of sportsmanship throughout their campaigns leading to the National Convention.

He stressed the need for all patriotic members of the party to unite and ensure the success of the party in all forthcoming elections, because they must uphold the unity and supremacy of our party.

Meanwhile the PDP BoT chairman, Walid Jibrin, has said that the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, the standard-bearer Atiku Abubakar, and all of the Peoples Democratic Party will jointly work to produce a running mate for the presidential candidate of the party.

Atiku won the PDP presidential ticket for the 2023 general election during the party’s special convention held at the weekend.

Jibrin revealed this via a statement, on Monday, saying Atiku’s victory as the flagbearer in the 2023 presidential contest is a victory for the party as it portends success for the nation.

The statement read in part: “The BoT also congratulates Sen. David Mark and the whole of his committee for organising one of the best elective National conventions after the Port-Harcourt convention chaired by Governor (Ifeanyi) Okowa of Delta State in 2018.”

He called on all party faithful to unite and work together for the progress of the presidential candidate to win the 2023 presidential election to liberate the country from the challenges of the present administration.

He further stated, “Finally, the BoT will assist the party and surely the Waziri Adamawa himself to come out with a very acceptable Vice President from southern Nigeria.”

Some names of prominent political leaders from the South-East, such as Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, have started to feature on the list of who will eventually be picked as the running mate of Atiku.
