Chairman, Osun State Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande has insisted that the two major political parties– All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been rejected by Osun people.

According to Akande, the people of the state crave for a new party to take over governance of the state by July 16, 2022 because the main parties have failed them.

The Accord party chairman spoke on Tuesday at the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

He said, “We conducted a poll and it’s result shows that the Osun people have rejected the two major parties and need a new platform. Accord party is a new party. Our candidate, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi is also a new candidate with clean record.

“Osun people are yearning for a new party and new face. Our party is the new platform. We have welcomed people who decamped from various parties to our party.”

Describing Accord party candidate as a man of capacity and integrity, Akande said the first agenda of the party if elected would be to change the state from a civil service state that depends on Federal Government allocation to an industrialised state with improved internally generated revenue.

“First agenda of the Accord party is industrialization of Osun State. Osun is over 30years and still remain a civil service state. 26 mineral resources have been discovered and ought to be tapped. We have gold in Ilesa. We can set up a gold mining plant in the state. This will create employment opportunities. Even adire production can be tapped into.

“You can not give what you don’t have.

Ogunbiyi is a business man who has set up various businesses. We need someone with entrepreneurial mentality. He has connections abroad that he can bring in to attract investors.

“Also, the healthcare system is not in a good shape. Patients wait for a long time to be attended to due to inadequate medical practitioners. This will be looked into and we will set up a standard healthcare system.

“Another important agenda is returning of power to the people. Those at the grassroots should be given the opportunity to choose their ward councilors and Local Government Chairmen. This is true Democracy.

Presently, local government chairmen and councillors don’t have the financial capacity to do projects, so the people suffer,” he said.

Reacting to the recent outburst of the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke who said the election will be fire for fire, Akande said election is not do or die affair.

He appealed for a peaceful guber poll and warned against vote buying which he said Accord party will not be involved in.
