FAVOUR ISHEMBER, Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has congratulated Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) on the successful completion of the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta.
The well, drilled as part of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture’s efforts to unlock hydrocarbon potential, was completed safely and efficiently in mid-December 2025.
The Awodi-07 well confirmed significant hydrocarbon presence across multiple reservoir zones, representing a notable milestone for the joint venture. NNPC Ltd Group CEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari commended CNL for operational excellence and technical competence, stating that the success reinforces the partnership’s commitment to growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves.
In his words:”The success of the Awodi-07 well further reinforces the strength of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture and our shared commitment to responsibly growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves.
“This achievement aligns squarely with our strategic priorities of increasing production, enhancing national energy security, and delivering sustainable value for the Nigerian people.”
On his part, NNPC Ltd Executive Vice President, Upstream, Mr. Udy Ntia, attributed the success to sustained collaboration, technical rigor, and a stable operating environment.
The discovery is expected to contribute to increasing oil production to 146,000 barrels per day, supporting government revenue and energy supply.
According to him, “this discovery underscores the importance of disciplined exploration programmes, strong partnerships, and the positive impact of the reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act.
We look forward to working closely with Chevron Nigeria Limited to mature this opportunity and progress it towards timely development and monetisation.”
The NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture operates several oil and gas fields in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, with Chevron owning 40% and NNPC Ltd holding the remaining share.
The partnership aims to develop Nigeria’s oil and gas resources effectively.
