.CP orders probe over alleged shooting
.Aisha Yesufu urges Nigerians to play ‘Osun script’ in January polls
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed anger over the recent attack on party supporters in Enugu State.
In a video shared on X, Obi said that whenever anarchy occurs, it consumes everybody, warning those responsible to desist from such acts.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has ordered a thorough investigation into an alleged shooting by unidentified armed hoodlums at NDC) Secretariat, Enugu.
Meanwhile, Kano State chapter of NDC has urged its members to remain calm following the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Saturday.
Similarly, activist Aisha Yesufu has joined the “Osun Script” social media campaign, pledging to protect her vote ahead of the 2027 elections.
On the attack, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement issued in Enugu on Sunday, said the alleged shooting took place on Saturday, Oct.10, at about 2:30p.m.
Ndukwe said that the incident reportedly left a man repairing a vehicle parked along the road with a suspected gunshot injury and resulted in damage to the windscreens of five parked vehicles.
“Upon receiving a distress report, police operatives promptly moved to the scene, restored normalcy and rushed the injured victim to an hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
“The commissioner has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to identify and apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.
Ndukwe said that in a separate incident at 11:30a.m on the same day, joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members who gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
“Preliminary findings indicate that airport authorities restricted the party members from entering the airport in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.
“A misunderstanding reportedly arose among the party members and escalated into a fight, prompting the intervention of the joint security operatives,” he said.
Ndukwe said that the commissioner had reiterated the need for political parties and their members to shun violence and conduct their activities in accordance with the law and existing peace accords.
The spokesman said that the commissioner had reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties.
“The command urges political parties to notify the police of their planned activities to facilitate adequate security arrangements,” he added.
Obi also recounted how his scheduled engagements in different states were cancelled after those who invited him reportedly received threats.
Tension had erupted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Saturday when thugs attacked members of the NDC.
This comes barely one month after the NDC alleged that “state-sponsored thugs” attacked its members during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting, Obi said, “The unfortunate incident that happened today in Enugu State, where NDC supporters were attacked by political thugs, has reportedly claimed one life.
“Those in government should know that when anarchy comes, it consumes everybody.”
The party’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Yusif Fasaha, gave the assurance in a statement made available to journalists in Kano shortly after INEC released the list.
Fasaha said the omission was not caused by the party, adding that INEC had attributed the development to a computer glitch and promised to correct it.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.
“We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it.
“So, everybody should remain calm. Between now and Monday, another list containing his name will be released,” he said.
The NDC spokesman maintained that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had fulfilled all the requirements for the election, insisting that the necessary processes had been completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He added that the party had reviewed the published list and would continue consultations with relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
INEC list for Kano gubernatorial candidates contained 17 names and their running mates from various political parties.
Governor Abba Yusuf was listed as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congres, APC, alongside his running mate, Murtala Sule-Garo.
On her part, Yesufu announced participation in a X post on Saturday, sharing a personalised poster generated through an online link that allows participants to declare their commitment to protecting their votes.
In her pledge, the activist identified herself as being from the Federal Capital Territory and declared her intention to vote for the National Democratic Congress in the January 16, 2027, election.
Explaining her pledge, Yesufu said she would follow the voting and counting processes to protect her vote.
“I am Aisha Yesufu from FCT. I will vote NDC on 16 January 2027 and play the Osun Script to protect my vote: vote, stay, count, snap the result sheet,” she said.
The campaign encourages participants to fill out an online form to generate personalised posters bearing their details and pledges. They are also encouraged to share the graphics on social media to promote the initiative.
Urging more Nigerians to participate, Yesufu said the 2027 elections should be approached differently from the 2023 general elections.
“2027 is not 2023. Learn the Osun Script and make your own pledge,” she added.
The activist also called on Nigerians to mobilise support for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, using the hashtags #YouRigWeOsunYou and #VoteNDC.
The “Osun Script” draws its name from the 2026 Osun State governorship election, in which incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815, winning by 66,252 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner on August 16, 2026, following the election held the previous day.
The campaign’s slogan, “vote, stay, count, snap the result sheet”, encourages voters to cast their ballots, remain at polling units to observe the counting process and photograph result sheets where permitted.
