NLC condemns deployment of troops to its headquarters

Vows to shun FG’s invitations for dialoque on eve of strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to henceforth, shun any invitation by the federal government to discuss or dialoque with it few days or on the eve of any planned action over welfare or unfriendly policies in the country.
This is as the union condenmed the militarisation of its headquarters in Abuja Wednesday morning by the federal government over the economic hardship protest
The president of NLC, Joe Ajaero at a briefing in Abuja yesterday commended Nigerian workers for turning out en masse in the Tuesday protest against economic woes, stating that the action has sent a very strong signal to government on the situation in the country.
He said that the Congress will decide on the next line of action, if at the end of the ultimatum, government fails to implement the agreement signed with it and the demands of Nigerian workers.
The congress however lambasted government for ocupying its office in Abuja with military and other security agents early hours of Wednesday to prevent the union from taking further action on the situation of the country.
Ajaero said it was undemocratic and insensitive on the part of government to block the hungry Nigerians from expressing their griviances .
Though the congress president commended the police and civil defence officers for acting maturely and professionaly during the rally to the National Assembly, he however described as shame on the government and the security agents at the National Assembly gate for allowing the thugs and hired jobless youths to have access to NASS for the purpose of attacking and opposing the genuine position of the congress.
He also used the forum to tackle the groups he described as saboteurs over their stand on the protest, maintaining that the congress will not allow it to be suffocated by them.
Speaking, a lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Borishade described president Bola Tinubu’s administration as the worst ever in terms of welfare concerns.
