The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta on Monday donated 1,200 books, 350 bags and other learning materials to pupils of Ogiame Primary School in Warri, Delta State.

The items were donated in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy in an outreach tagged: “Educational Rhapsody” on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Other items donated included 10 whiteboards, marker boards, school bells, board dusters, markers, footballs and others.

The outreach featured a career talk and interactive sessions between naval officers and the pupils, with the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, urging the children to dream big and remain disciplined.

In his address, Commandore Tasiu said the initiative was conceived to support learning and youth development in the host communities.

He admonished the students to work hard for their future so that they would not end up being hoodlums and problems to society.

According to him, the future strength, prosperity, and security of Nigeria depend on the quality of knowledge and values imparted to children today.

Admonishing the students, he said, “The limit of what you can do is in your hands. Think big, think of producing very big things and one day, you will do it. Everything you see was the idea of someone and that person started thinking when he was like you. Start thinking of what to do and start thinking of how to do it. Listen to your teachers as they are the guiding light to achieving your dreams.”

Speaking further, he said: “The future strength, prosperity, and security of Nigeria depend on the quality of knowledge and values we give our children today. That is why the Navy created Educational Rhapsody: to encourage learning, reward academic effort, and inspire young Nigerians to aim higher. The materials we present today are a small but deliberate gesture.

“They represent our commitment to your educational aspirations here at Ogiame Primary School. We hope these books, writing materials, and learning aids will motivate you to work harder, stay disciplined, and take pride in being Nigerian. To the students: use these materials well. Be focused, be curious, and please note that the President of Nigeria, the Governor of Delta State, your Local Government Chairman, your head master, your teachers, I and every other person you see here today, and I once sat in a classroom like this in the past. So, you too can be anything you want to be if you work hard,” he said.

He thanked the teachers and management of Ogiame Primary school for their Sacrifices in showing character and future in difficult circumstances.

To the parents and guardians, he added: “To parents, guardians, and community leaders: thank you for standing with these children. Nation-building is a shared responsibility, and it starts at home and in the classroom.

“To the teachers and management staff of Ogiame Primary School, thank you for your sacrifice and dedication. You are shaping character and future in difficult circumstances, and your work matters deeply.”

In her remarks, the headmistress of Ogiame Primary School, Mrs Toju Aziz thanked the Commander and NNS Delta for the laudable initiative and urged the children to listen attentively to the career advice that was given.

“We will all agree that the foundation of children is very critical to their development and the society as a whole. It is on this note, that the issue of career talk for pupils of this school, is very dear to my heart. I want to thank the Commander, NNS DELTA and other personnel of the Command for this laudable initiative. I will also not fail to charge pupils of this school, to be very attentive to the career advice, that would be given here today. It is my hope that Ogiame Primary School, would continue to attract meaningful attention and development under my leadership. Thanks and God bless,” she said.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of Local Education Authority, Warri South Local Government Area, Mrs Augusta praised the NNS Delta for having the best interest for their host communities saying that the gesture will have a positive impact on the children and boost their morale in learning.

“I am grateful for what the NNS Delta has been doing for schools in Warri South. Last year by God’s grace, I witnessed the presentation of learning and teaching materials presented to Nana Model Primary School and I thank God that I’m witnessing the one for today being presented to Ogiame Primary School. The learners have seen all that you have done today and it will leave a mark in their minds. They will never forget what you have done today,” she commended.

Thanking NNS Delta, one of the students said she was honoured to receive the learning materials as it will help her in her studies.
