Methamphetamine will destroy, kill addicted youths – Cath Bishop warns

The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Anambra state capital, His Grace, Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has warned the youths to refrain from consuming hard drugs especially methamphetamine ( mkpurummiri) reminding them that it would destroy and kill them if they continued to take the substance.

Sounding the note of warning during the silver jubilee celebration of St Theresa Catholic church, Ifiteani, Enugwu-Ukwu, last Sunday, Bishop Ezeokafor attributed the drug intake to the company the youths keep adding that parents should monitor the type of company their children kept.

” There is a new hard drug now, methamphetamine, they call it mkpurummiri, that destroys human beings and very difficult to rehabilitate such a person and the option left is death.”

” I believe God who created us has mission for all of us. I call on youths to  refrain from hard drugs and toe the line of what will make them responsible. Maybe because they want quick money it makes them to take the hard drugs.

I urge parents to lay good foundation for their children because some lack parents’ care and get addicted. Every society that wants to make meaning out of life must take care of the young people. The youths should get close to God and parents give them more attention” he posited.

Contributing, the CEO of Dangana Global limited and a staunch member of the church, Chief Emmanuel Chukwujekwu Atuegbu, while commending the Bishop for his selfless service to the people, stated that methamphetamine (mkpurummiri) has become a global problem that needed urgent attention to save the lives of the youths.

“The hard drugs intake will not lead the youths to anywhere but rather destroy them. The youths should embrace God. Mkpurummiri will destroy you.”

,”It is search for quick money that causes the youths to take the hard drugs that will eventually destroy and. Kill them”, he stated.

He described Bishop Ezeokafor as ordained by God adding that the foundation he layed for the young priests would be parting gift to them.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman, Catholic Men Organization, CMO of the church, ,Chief Reginald Okoye, blamed parents for the increase in consumption of mkpurummiri adding that, “children watch some of their parents who take the drug and which in turn the children also take it”

“Men and women are involve now in taking the drug, it is now a global problem . Parents should try to get the mindset of the youths corrected”

“Bad company is major cause of the addiction and the youths think what they take makes them happy and high”. END.
