Killings, destruction of property in S/East very worrisome- Iwuanyanwu

The chairman Ohanaeze ndigbo elders council, chief  Emmanuel C Iwuanyanwu has expressed deep worry over the current killings and wanton destruction of government security facilities in the South East zone of the country

 

Addressing a press conference on the situation in Owerri Imo state capital Thursday, Chief Iwuanyanwu said, he  had watched with deep grief the quantum of innocent blood being shed in the zone

 

 

According to him, ” properties belonging to Government and individuals and human lives have been destroyed”

 

He said, ” this ugly situation has caused me considerable pain and concern”

 

 

Chief Iwuanyanwu continued, ” after sleepless nights, I decided to take liberty of my position as the chairman, council of elders, Ohanaeze ndigbo to call an emergency meeting of the council of elders”

 

He explained that at the meeting, the security situation in the zone was critically examined and the council members expressed concern over the deteriorating security, social and economic conditions in the region

 

Chief Iwuanyanwu saw it as an abomination, a situation where the Igboman is killing fellow Igboman for no just cause recalling ” the Igbos lost over two million people during the Nigerian civil war” pointing out that he sees no reason why more blood should be shed in the region

 

He appealed to all and sundry to allow peace to reign and ensuring that the coming elections in the South East are peaceful

 

According to him, ” we believe that the solution to this problem is not killing, blood shed and destruction of government security facilities but a peaceful discussion and negotiations”

 

For this reason, he said the elders council resolved to hold a peace summit to deliberate on the nagging issues believing that the peace summit would give the youths the opportunity to air their grievances

 

Chief Iwuanyanwu promised on behalf of the council, to resolve the problems saying that he has communicated this to all the governor’s of the zone

 

 

He emphasized his worry over the magnitude of threats being issued by some youths from which they declared that there will be no elections in the zone, that all politicians taking part in the elections would be killed, Government and Governor’s houses would destroyed and security personnel and agencies seen anywhere would be attacked

 

Chief Iwuanyanwu however appealed to all concerned to sheath their sward and accept a cease fire in order to allow the elections to hold in the zone devoid of any blood shed

 

He catigoricaly assured that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the detained  leader of  IPOB, the Indigenous people of Biafra, would released soon as the Ohanaeze ndigbo is working tirelessly to actualize his release

 

Chief Iwuanyanwu declared further that at the peace summit, Mazi  Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ikpa or their representatives would be in attendance to find lasting solution to the problems
