.N5m bounty on his head stands — Katsina Police
.We consider him a terrorist – Masari
.’Enough of killings’
BY ANDY ASEMOTA, Katsina and Favour Ishember, Abuja
Katsina State and the Police Command in the state have blacklisted Zamfara repentant terror leader, Ada Aleru, and ordered police personnel to be prepared for his arrest anywhere in Katsina.
An online news medium, PREMIUM TIMES, reported yesterday (Tuesday) that Katsina Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, announced the debarment of the ex-bandit warlord turned chief, Sarkin Fulanin Yandoto, from Katsina State.
Masari was quoted as saying that an amnesty granted Aleru by Zamafara State Government would not stop his arrest in Katsina State where the former terrorists kingpin had been declared wanted for masterminding killings and kidnapping of scores of its residents.
In an interview with BBC Hausa monitored in Katsina, masari insisted that while his Zamfara State counterpart had rightly suspended the Emir of Yandoyto Daji, Aliyu Marafa, for conferring traditional title on Aleru, the sanction however underscored the Katsina State’s demand that Aleru should not escape the wrath of the law for committing heinous crimes in Katsina.
Masari pointed out that he had been unable to get across to his Zamfara counterpart but he won’t relent until justice is served in the case.
Hours after the conferment of sarkin Fulanin Yandoto on Aleru, the spokesman of Katsina State police command, Gambo Isah, confirmed that Aleru remained a wanted person. His reaction came shortly before Zamfara State Government dissociated itself from the decision to make Aleru the leader of all Fulanis in Yandoto Emirate, as the title suggests.
According to Isah, in 2019, the Katsina police command placed a bounty of five million naira for anyone that would provide information leading to the arrest of Aleru.
He reiterated that Aleru led the attack on Kidasau community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina, killing 52 residents.
He said the attack was in protest over the arrest of Aleru’s son, Sulaiman, adding that bandits’ kingpin was declared wanted for crimes that included culpable homicide, terrorism, armed robbery and kidnapping.
The report read in part: “Speaking to BBC Hausa on Tuesday morning, the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, said the state has not forgiven the terrorist.
“He said he was surprised that an Emir in neighbouring Zamfara conferred a traditional title on the terrorist.
“Mr. Masari insisted that even if Mr. Aleru has accepted to live peacefully with the communities in Zamfara, his government still considers him a terrorist.”
