Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has threatened to sack any political appointee whose local government records poor turnout in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration

Umahi issues the threat in Abakaliki the State capital on Monday while addressing a cross section of APC faithful’s, Traditional Rulers during the swearing in of a  new Head of Service Dr /Mrs Rita Mary Okoro,  five new Commissioners and two Special Assistants.

Umahi expressed dismay over the abysmal performance recorded so far in the CVR across the 13 Local government areas of the State.

The reason why I called Traditional Rulers, the leadership of Coordinators,  town Union Presidents is on the voter registration exercise billed to end by June 30th 2022*

He insisted that the government would take the issue of Continuous  Voters Registration serious .

According to him, *any local government we have less than 30,000 voters at the close of counting, all the Commissioners from there will go home*

*If you don’t register more than 30,000     voters in your domain, you will all go home*

He said that it would be a disservice to the State with the absymal  performance so far recorded in the current Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

Umahi charged the New Commissioners to  strive and  contribute their quota in delivering the needed  democratic dividends to the people.

The New Commissioners and their Portfolios  included Chief Mathias Adum /Lands and Survey, Mr Romanus Nwasum /Infrastructural Concession, Mrs Beatrice Eze /Culture and Tourism, Chief Celestine Nwali /Capital City Developments and Mr Christopher Uchaji /Solid Minerals respectively.

The New Head of Service Dr /Mrs Rita Mary Okoro, was the second female personnel to be appointed in that position.

In a related development , Governor Umahi has equally sworn-in two new Special Assistants namely Mr Chooks Oko, who was sworn in as Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategy.
