Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reinstated Eze Sergeant Chidi Awuse, a known ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
Awuse, also Chairman of the South-South Monarchs Forum, replaces HRM Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Ohna Apara, who was appointed during the state’s political crisis.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo S. A. Wokoma.
The statement read, “His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of His Majesty, Eze (Sir) Sergeant Chidi Awuse, DSSRS, JP, Nne-Nwe-Eli Emohua XIII (Olo IV), as the Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.”
According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect.
Recall that Governor Fubara had in 2024, dissolved the council led by Awuse and appointed Eze Wodo as replacement, following the protracted political feud between him and his predecessor, Wike.
The latest appointment is seen as part of the ongoing peace and reconciliation process between Governor Fubara and the FCT Minister and other stakeholders to restore stability in the state.
