Four killed as Police uncover den  of criminals near FCT Minister’s residence

.IRT nabs 27 robbery suspects in Kubwa

The police has uncovered a killing den located very close to the official residence of the FCT Minister in Life camp, known as Kuchibena, where deadly cult activities have turned the slum into a killing field, making life very miserable for residents.

Our correspondent gathered that within the past two months,  residents said several persons have died, with about 4 persons murdered this week  in a most gruesome manner by people suspected to be cultists.

The last killing that reportedly shook the village was a young man, whose body was said to have been dismembered, with his head chopped off and hung on a stick by his attackers.

The notorious slum which is now  sandwiched by several privately developed estates, has turned to an operational theatre for hardened criminals who terrorize the neighborhood.

The residents who appear to have resigned to fate amidst frustrating and tension, are also afraid to speak out, for fear of becoming an easy target to the blood-thirsty cultists and hoodlums, who are said to be under-aged, but operate as lords of the jungle in the area.

One of the community leaders who pleaded anonymity, said that the bloody cult clashes have become too frequent and deadly, making people to live on a daily basis with clouds of uncertainty and disillusionment.

” the night hours are the worst period for the people, as the criminals have defied almost all the security measures put in place by the Community and some security agencies”

While the FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh has not reacted to inquiry regarding the incessant killings in Kuchibena, a letter addressed to Abuja Environmental Protection Board, requesting for demolition of the criminal hideouts in the community has confirmed the lawless situation in the said den.

 

 

The letter dated April 28th, 2021 and signed by the Galadima Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chinyere Akalaga, complained that the activities of the hoodlums had destroyed peace and order in village and the surrounding neighbourhood.

The Police specifically requested for ” dislodgement of illegal structures, settlements imposing security threat within Galadima area ”

The letter reads, ” consequent upon Intelligence report received from the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Abuja from the Department of State Security Services and 21st April 2021 pointing Sahara Gate Market, Mab-Global Junction, Efab Queen opposite market, Cashew Garden along Kuchibena and the popular Mami market in the same Kuchibena area among other major black spots in Galadima srca in the FCT

”  It has become even more expedient that a drastic action be taken by your agency in order to curb the excesses of hoodlums and miscreants that have over time terrorize the peace in and around the neighborhood.

”  In view of the above stated facts, it may therefore please your authority in the interest of sanity to consider the following as measures for lasting solution: to include Outright removal,  demolition of illegal structures within the area under review. Liaise with the police on a joint assignment in a bid to dislodge them from their”.

Meanwhile, the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team IRT have arrested a middle aged armed robbery suspect Mr Christian Clifford 27 who has pleaded for leniency and confessed to the crime of robbery and phone snatching after making some revealing and confessional statements on these acts.

 

The suspect who was arrested by a combined team of the IRT after evading several arrests from sister agency. The suspects was arrested on 22nd September 2021 at an undisclosed hotel in the Kubwa area of the nation’s capital said that he used to be a robber but had stopped the act and  .

 

In a confessional statement made  to the Police team upon his arrest reveals that he had robbed at different points in Abuja metropolis and Keffi in Nassarawa State and  had earlier jumped from Police vehicle in one of his travails in Police net upon being taken to court for arraignment.

 

He said he is an indigene of Plateau State but was born in Takum Taraba state where his parents raised him and some other of his siblings before he relocated to Abuja

 

On the locations where he had robbed victims of his nefarious act, he said that he alongside three other gang members had robbed a family in Jos road Keffi and one other house at Karu area of Abuja where they stole  a laptop and later were arrested.

 

The suspect who said he now operates camera for photography and is registered as a photographer at the National Centre for Women Development however admitted that he committed some of the robbery cases against him by the Police.

 

Upon interrogation by the IRT team, he confessed to have robbed and stolen from a family man, the sum of eighteen million naira in 2015,some phones and other items at Jos road in Keffi Nassarawa State.

 

He also confessed to have been arrested by the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Police over stolen phone which he said he bought from a friend who introduced him into crimes.

 

However, preliminary investigation of the said crime according to the report given by the Investigative Police Officer Mr Sanni revealed that the stolen phone was stolen from a shop owner at GSM village Wuse Abuja after a robbery incident.

 

The suspect and one other now at large was reported to have jumped from a police patrol vehicle after he was arrested by the SARS Police team for the offence of stolen phone and was being taken to a magistrate court for arraignment in 2016.

 

He made some  useful and heart rending statements to the Police as he confessed to the crime of robberies in Abuja and Keffi  and pleaded for leniency saying that he has since left criminality to learn a new skills  and is now practicing the work of video work.

 

 

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), fdc, NPM, while commending security operatives for the unrelenting fight against violent crimes in the country, assured citizens of the commitment of the Force to improving public safety and security and upholding law and order in the country.
