Extradition: Court fixes definite hearing on suit against Kyari for today

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has today, shifted the definite hearing in the Suit by the Federal Government, seeking to extradite suspended DCP Abba Kyari to the United States to face trial on allegations of fraud, money laundering and identity theft.

Counsel to Abba Kyari, Nureni Jimoh (SAN) filed a plenary objection challenging the application for extraction, made by the Federal Government.

Justice Inyang Ekwo asked the Attorney-General’s team led by Pius Akuta (SAN), to file a formal response to the counter affidavit filled by Abba Kyari’s team. He fixed the definite hearing for June 3, to give them time to do so.

The Suit for the extradition of Abba Kyari to the United States, filled by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, is in line with a request made by the US Government, through the US Embassy in Abuja, that the detained DCP be transferred to the US, to answer for his indictment in an alleged fraud by Abdulraman Abbas also known as Hushpuppi.

The Suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022 and titled “Application for the Extradition of Abba Kyari to the U.S.,” with the AGF as the applicant, and Kyari as the respondent.

Abba Kyari until his arrest, was the head of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
