Ebonyi PDP raises alarm over alleged abduction of State Publicity Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has raised alarm over alleged intimidation and harassment of its members by operatives of South-East security Outfit codenamed “Ebubeagu”.

The Chairman of PDP  in the State Chief Toochukwu Okorie ,made the assertion in Abakaliki the state capital on Sunday while briefing newsmen on the alleged abduction of the State Party Publicity Secretary Mr Chika Nwaoba.

Chief Okorie called on the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami,  National Security Adviser (rtd Gen Mongunu, and the  Inspector General of Police Baba Alkali to take judicial notice of happening in Ebonyi State .

He vowed that the party would henceforth resist any attempt by any group to harass and intimidate its members under any guise stating that he had informed the State Commissioner of Police Mr Aliyu Garba, who told him he was out of the State.

“We have to warn that no individual has the monopoly of violence, the PDP in Ebonyi State is being pushed to the wall, the party is a peace loving party, we are being pushed to a point where we have to resist  the evil act”

Chief Okorie accused the operatives of the security outfit of masterminding the alleged abduction of the party Publicity Secretary,by stating that the rescue of the victim by Police Personnel was an act of God.

According to him,”the State PDP Publicity Secretary Mr Chika Nwaoba was abducted by a gang of criminals along Abakaliki-Enugu road and was thrown into a booth of a Sienna Bus in which the abductors drove with.

“The victim was riding in company with the State PDP deputy Chairman Barrister Ifeanyi Nworie, who courageously resisted the abductors from taking away Mr Nwaoba to their vehicle”

“The deputy Chairman then put a Call across to the Officer Commanding the anti-kidnapping Unit of the Police Mr Bruno who prompting sent a team ,the abductors were intercepted and Mr Nwoba was subsequently rescued from the abductors”

The PDP Chairman informed newsmen that the victim was  taken into  custody by the Police, emphasizing that rather than arrest the abductors who the Police met at the scene of the incident, they took the victim Mr Nwaoba into custody and allowed the abductors to go.

“Upon inquiry the PDP leaders were informed that those were gang of criminal elements hiding under the guise of Ebubeagu, to unleash terror on innocent Citizens”

“It is unfortunate that Mr Nwaoba who was the victim has now become the accused in this circumstance, I want to inform Nigerians that this gang harassed  and intimidate innocent citizens in the State”

Chief Okorie stated that all efforts made by him to see Mr  Chika Nwaoba at the Polce Station yielded  no result querying “why is the Police still keeping him, what is the victim being suspected of.
